Opening February 7th: Two person show in Istanbul with artist Paul Catanese at Kasa Galeri.

This gallery is directed by Lanfranco Aceti, Editor in Chief of the Leonardo Electronic Almanac. The E-Scapes exhibition is based on works that Jane Prophet and Paul Catanese produced for the 2nd issue of the re-launched the Leonardo Electronic Almanac in 2010. Prophet’s works were presented as “An Exploration of Structure” and the selected images had detailed captions. LEA showed the works on Facebook and Flickr, and described them as follows:

“In this portfolio of images, Jane Prophet takes previously completed art works and re-evaluates them as explorations of structure. Prophet uses innovative media combined with a traditional aesthetics, to address issues related to the use of scientific methods and technologies in creating art. This can be seen in her use of elements derived from fractal mathematics to the treatment of politics of landscape. She demonstrates through her works, which exist in a variety of forms, the ability to fascinate the audience with innovative aesthetics.”

Review of Material Conditions, an eBook for Proboscis for their series Material Conditions. My contribution making/do: big idea, small budget, can do is the story of making my first piece of “land art” and reflects on two years during which I moved countries, shifted from an urban to rural environment, and re-calibrated my art practice in order to keep on making work despite a lack of funding.

Proboscis launched the first series of Material Conditions, a set of eight eBooks created with bookleteer, asking professional creative practitioners to reflect on what the material conditions for their own practice are, especially now in relation to the climate of change and uncertainty brought about by the recession and public sector cuts – part of Proboscis’ wider programme of activities, Public Goods.

[...] Recently I have become interested in compulsive writing: what ‹rules› might define that behaviour – how might I make a model of compulsive writing? I have experimented by conducting my own compulsive writing projects, ‹modelling› myself on one compulsive writer (Emma Hauck) in order to understand another. I have also analysed the components of some compulsively written texts (the form of the handwriting, the objects described in the texts) to gain insights about the author.

A photograph from this work was selected by The Centre for Crime and Justice Studies in the UK for Caught on camera: Britain’s best crime photography. Read more in this article in The Independent newspaper“What’s more harmful – prejudice or war?
