Breathing Building: unmade proposal for Rome

Breathing Building: My proposal alluded to the development of the new space as having ‘breathed new life into an old building’. The artwork does this literally by temporarily taking possession of the stone ‘frames’ cut into the façade and treating them as pictorial ‘lungs’. For a day or so the building will seem to breathe – its solid austere walls will flex and fill with air and then deflate. 10 panels will fixed to the building each of which is a shallow box covered with stretchy latex or vinyl material. Compressed air will be slowly blown into the panels making them fill up with air, bulging. They will then slowly deflate. And inflate again.
